Slime Care 101

Preventing Mold

Slime can develop mold because of moisture, contamination and warm temperatures. It is important to wash your hands before and after playing with slime to prevent mold and bacteria from growing in your slime. You should always play with slime on a clean and dry surface. Store slime in an airtight container and in a cool environment to avoid moisture. Food and germs that come in contact with slime can lead to mold.

How to Make Activator

You will need to “activate” glue to scientifically turn it into slime with an “activator” which will cross-link polymers so the liquid glue can bind into a non-newtonian state. Use our Slime Activator Powder by simply following the instructions on the bag, or make your own:

Borax/Sodium Borate Activator

Add 1 tsp of borax powder in 1 cup of warm water and stir until dissolved.

Non Borax Activator

Mix ½ tsp of baking soda to 3 TBSP of any eye contact solution.

Slime Remover

Spray our slime remover, (available for purchase) let it soak in for a few seconds, scrub with a brush, blot with a cloth, and repeat as needed.

If you don’t have slime remover, you can use anything acidic like vinegar, lemons, orange cleaner. Citric acid breaks down the polymers that bind together and you scrub it off.

Sticky Slime?

Add a few drops of activator solution. Knead your slime. Never add the borax powder directly to the slime. It will become a hard ball!

Repeat the process until the desired texture is reached.

Stiff Slime?

Add a few drops warm water and knead until slime softens. If slime is very stiff, microwave for a few seconds.

For clear slimes: add one to two drops of hand sanitizer or clear hair gel.

For opaque slimes: Moisten with unscented conditioner, hair gel or lotion – knead until soft.
